Photographed for G.Binsky's Deep Earth collection. The Photoshoot was really enjoyable, even that day was the hottest day recorded on the year 2019 and on top of that we had two little rains lasting about ten minutes or less it was still very fun project.
It's amazing how medium format negatives vs 35mm are. You can easily see the quality even after pushing the film 2 stops.
I'm planning on a trip to Turkey for little bit of work, little bit of leisure. I really like the light here Kodak Portra 400 really produces good colours in the correct light/exposure. Also all the Colour photos I shot in this GoSee was shot on Expired Kodak Portra 400. When was it Expired? Early 2013. Friend and colleague Carolina gave me those expired film, saying that she got them when we were in university. Also so far I shot 7 GoSee shoots including this one. I'm just thinking of a layout/way of presenting these Go See shoots. Should I add 1 photo per post and make 3 - 4 posts per Talent/Model or just 1 post per model with a jump break. Decisions . . . Decisions . . .
Today 30th May 2017 I've finished my 2nd 1lt bottle of Kodak HC110. Its not a huge deal, but again I find it exciting. Also while Im looking at the quality of processed negatives from back then and now, I can see that I've improved ever since graduating from London College of Fashion and also I developed a very good and efficient home processing Black and White film with Kodak HC110.

*I know the bottle looks not finished there, this photo was taken 3 weeks ago or so, the bottle finished today! I just added this cool aftermath of film processing marathon photo for demonstration purpose. Also nobody likes blogposts without photos/visuals, humans got lazier >=/ They want pictures and graphs and videos over reading posts and etc . . .
P.s. It took me two days to finish, dry, cut, and file those negatives and another 3 days to scan them all.Bugra Ergilhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12738522194095349009noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1566697333444103007.post-49225876986823089632017-05-26T15:32:00.000+01:002017-05-26T16:48:30.764+01:00Croissants ★ CookiesHere is a photo from London streets. I still haven't purchased a new laptop 100% of my work is being edited on mid 2012 Macbook Pro (non-retina discontinued) and my scanner is the Epson Perfection V750 Pro, a scanner dating back to 2006 yes over a decade old. Ever since I've graduated from the University I moaned in-focus, sharp scans.
In December 2015, I wrote a blogpost about Anti Newton Ring glass. Since then I've been using the ANR glass (anti newton ring glass) in my scanning.
These ANR glass are cut in the specific size for the epson perfection V750 pro medium format film trays. These ANR glass helped me get the best quality I can achieve from the V750 scanner. The ANR glass helps keeping the film flat, nullifies film shaking, and keeps the film un bended in focus while scanning. See the diagram below.

Ever since December 2015, all my medium format film scans from Epson Perfection V750 Pro scanner are with the help of ANR glass, and you can just look trough here.
Those of you who has a V750, I'd reccomend you to try ANR, it is not a drum or a Imacon scanner but when used right by a skilled user it will give great results. My tip for using this scanner regardless of ANR glass or software is: automation should be the last thing you do with this scanner. I'll explain this along with my workflow scanning medium format film in another blogpost in future. Bugra Ergilhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12738522194095349009noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1566697333444103007.post-36587934890343593542017-05-09T17:35:00.000+01:002017-07-07T00:56:53.374+01:00GoSee №1.0Here is a great new addition to my blog to promote my work/portfolio.
From what I assumed, he was waiting for something or someone and reading a book to pass the time. Something you don't see everyday. In 2017 when people are waiting for something they usually pass the time on their phones, or tablets or even e-reader but this guy had a book. You don't see this everyday . . . Really go outside and count the people reading books.
However this year, I decided to go there with my friend Burcu and photograph what I see stylish and beautiful. I found this stylish gentelman who I assume is a Hairstylist, on his cigarette break and took a photo of him. (with his permission of course)
A small part of larger project. Initially I used Pentax 67 II however I brought my Nikon F6 with me as well just to be safe. It was good idea! I am used shoot fashion and portraiture where I have full control over my model and I can tell them how to pose and how to stand etc... In this situation the mechanics are working on their engines and motor parts and they are not posing or listening to me or standing in one place too long. In a scenario like this its very hard to shoot everything with Pentax 67 manual focusing, it is possible but at the end I might not have all the photos I need. So I switched to F6 and as a result of that; I now have some photos shot on Pentax 67, where the quality is great because of the negative size over 35mm and when I put the photos together the quality difference is effecting the story flow of overall story. See full story here!
In a shoot like this where the model is gorgeous and have great skin it all ends up with the photographers skills in photography and communication.

As I worked on both photographs in photoshop and retouched them in a way that the client wanted, I started to realise that I spend more time on Digital photo over the film and that was already my first main reason on why I switched to Analogue Photography over Digital Photography.
What do I mean by I spend more time on digital in photoshop over Film? Well I do spend considerable amount of time on scanning and it takes 2-3 days for Photofusion to process my negatives(the pro photo lab I use for colour and commercial shoots) but I accepted that as a part of my job. Once I sit down in front of the computer to work using photoshop and open both the scanned file and Digital file, I spend about one hour more editing time in the digital file. This extra hour is usually spent on Dodge and Burn tool. With film I spend very little time if not no time at all on Dodging and Burning.
I used to spend a lot more time editing digital photos before I built a workflow on PhaseOne CaptureOne. With that program, I shoot and directly export files as PSD(photoshop document) with my preset adjustment applied to the photo.

Here are the two photos below. The photoshoot was originally shot on digital however I just wanted to have some analog photos for my own personal use. Remember the photo I shot with Pentax has no dodge and burn. What do you think? Near future I will write about why I switch to film for %70 of my work.

Some good news! Its been some time that we did not have good news, but looks like 2017 is a good year for analogue photography and film. First kodak announced that they will be reintroducing the Ektachrome and now finally Ferrania announcing P30 (alpha).

If you are wondering what does the alpha mean ? is it in the name of the product? Nope! Alpha means its the first stage testing. Usually when a product is being made, they make a small batch of alpha to test the quality, consistency, compatibility etc... then some corrections are made and beta testing begins where its now sold or distributed wider audience. Beta testing is like a real world testing however the product is still open to minor tweaking here and there.
Once they understand that the product is ok and no longer needs to be altered or tested they finalise it and it can be sold with company warranty. Bugra Ergilhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12738522194095349009noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1566697333444103007.post-86294724460599751332017-01-29T17:31:00.000+00:002017-01-29T17:31:47.578+00:00Man at Trafalgar Square A homeless man with his dog companion at Trafalgar Square. Instead of always searching for photography projects to get involved in and look for clients in internet and other sources, I want to devote one day every week or one day every two weeks to street photography. This will also motivate me to wakeup earlier on days that I don't have photoshoots. Not to mention keep the rust off my Mamiya RZ67 Pro II.
This is from a test shoot I've done last year . . . a test to see if I can shoot kids and boy it was difficult. Art directing a kid was definitely a challenge, every time I asked her to pose in a way; she would either nod or shake off her head to say yes or no, which makes verbal communication nearly impossible.
I immediately rushed to my camera and take the photo before we passed him. Luckily he was giving way to our ferry which gave me enough time to take out the camera and take the photo in the right moment.
In here I had to build a setup that was in favour of the model when it came to space management, not only the model was painted pink she also had to be behind a table. The main set was already built in several days in advance thus and also set designers were working on it thus I could not use it. So in a small area I came up with this small setup.

The black pollyboards are there to kill the spill light and add more contrast to edges of model. The Octagonal Softbox is a little higher than the camera, and the reflector is is white circular reflector to soften the shadows under the chin. Umbrellas are there to illuminate the background to the same tone as the table.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I've seen online reviews, written reviews, hype, rant, salt and all love and hate about the machine. Here I'd like to tell my own point of view to this new and expensive tool as a photographer.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">So lets look at the highlights shall we?

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

67% brighter display than the generation before:
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">While editing photos, too brights screen can fool the photographer in to believing his exposure is wrong. Ideal brightness for editing photographs is 120 cd/m<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">² or 100 cd/m<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">² if you are specialising in print only. I use 120 cd/m<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">² brightness in my setup. So I don't care about this.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">Faster Graphics 2GB or 4GB VRAM:
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This is actually one thing I am looking for. my current computer has 1GB VRAM which is Nvidia GT650. Photography editing tools do not require too much Vram however the preview and using certain filter tools do tend to respond slower bigger the image gets. Vram also take some pressure off the CPU. Running CaptureOne and Photoshop at the same time with more Vram I can throw at it the better.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: medium;">PCIe- based SSD:
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I am looking forward for this as well. I was thinking of upgrading with Raid 0 but that required me to format/reinstall the mac once again which means all my current data would be gone and I just don't want to buy 2 same SSD and go through all this process on this old body. PCIe is even faster than Raid 0 which is already incredible fast. Fast read and write speeds will help me look through the giant sized photos without delay, and this happens to me because I shoot medium format film and the photos are about 65 megapixels and very large in size.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: medium;">10 hours of battery life:
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I need to test that my self because website states that it is UP TO 10 hours which will be different for sure when I am tethering and transmitting preview of the tethered photos to clients Tablet. A full day photoshoot is about 8 hours and 1st hour of the shoot is hair makeup and etc so if the battery lasts 7 hours that would be great. p.s. Website states its all day battery life 10 hours . . . Dear Apple, one day is 24 hours, I am awake about 12-14 hours a day!
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">Up to 2.9 GHz Quadcore Intel core i7 processor:
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">CPU is the heart of the computer and newer faster processor is always welcome. Multitasking and Adobe Bridge requires fast CPU. Adobe Bridge requires both good CPU and GPU when working on 65 megapixels 16 bit Adobe RGB tiff files. So yes please. I know that this is not the best processor out there but compare to mine it is really good.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: medium;">Touch Bar and Touch ID:
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I don't care about this and I wont be using this much. I think its a clever idea yet very dumb, having the Function keys and having a touch bar at the same time . . . yea that would be a innovation. I watched the demo and "usefulness" and NO, I can do Half the things they promoted with hotkeys which I am familiar and used to it and other half Im not interested in anyways. I usually use a external keyboard while I'm at home anyways so thats a useless function to me and anyone who knows how to quickly and efficiently operate computer while editing with their preferred software. The most thing I use on which is on function keys which is now replaced by touch bar is the mission control and launchpad which can become a deal breaker if mac got rid of the entire function.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

No more Magsafe:
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">WTF! If Steve was alive he would die again, if he could hear this. Photography studios are full of cables and clumsy people. I don't care about being able to charge from both sides.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

Yet another fan system for cooling:
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Every time mac makes a new fan, they present it as if they invented the wheal. So far all mac books become hot and very hot when using the computer to its limits. I have no doubt this will be same.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">Four USB type C ports which are also thunderbolt:
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Here is yet another very smart and yet very dumb idea. I understand that apple wants to charge with USB-c and be able to use both sides. But you know what would be great idea . . . Have two of those "innovation" usb-c ports (one on each side) then have one Old fashioned Thunderbolt, one USB 3 and you know what would earn back my respect re-introduce the Ethernet port This is a "PRO" machine! The loss of SD card reader is not a big deal to me I shoot on medium format film and my digital Camera uses CF cards. I have to spend £70 and get this to fill my needs. I already have a amazing USB 3 dock with ten USB 3 and one 5V USB port. So just one dongle shit will be sufficient (I HOPE)
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">FUNCTION OVER FORM! APPLE Let me repeat FUNCTION OVER FORM!!! Remember when apple used the advertising slogan and was a key point for many creative people to try apple when IBM, Toshiba, Dell, Asus machines with windows operating system were dominating the market. Let me tell you "Apple Does MORE Costs LESS" WTF happened to that?
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">Above sRGB colour gamut screen:
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This is improvement in positive way, however unless it is 10bit simultaneous colour, wide gamut over 1Billion colour representation Thats a Billion with a B and 100% Adobe RGB 1998 coverage, it is not too useful to Professionals. However I will enjoy watching things on it I guess . . . and I will have more accurate representation of the colours which are displayed on WEB. See my current setup here. Well I might not be able to do full accurate editing with this new screen but, I can view my edited images and get a feed back on what it will look like on other peoples screen and thats the only good thing about this screen from my perspective.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">New 720p Front Facing Camera:
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I don't actually care about this, however it is 2016 and 720p . . . apple you can do better! most of my FaceTime and video calls are made from my phone and received to my phone. So I wont notice much between 1080 and 720 but still, for those who is using bigger screen to view you face call things, that could make difference to them.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">Thinner Keyboard which is Loud:
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I don't know why people are making too much fuss about this but as long as there is a functioning keyboard, which responds to me I am fine.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Selling point of this Laptop to me is, I need something compact powerful with mac OS. I've been using my laptop since mid 2012 and it is time to invest in a upgrade. My wait for Mac Pro was waste, Hackhintosh is very unreliable unless I am a computer Wizard and apple will just not put dedicated Graphics card on their mac mini.
